How to boost traffic to your blog

Building Traffic to Your Blog

As a new blogger the question always come up - where do you get traffic? The one thing you have to do all the time is promote your blog. This can take up a lot of time researching and find the great places to promote your blog.

Here are some tips to let the world know of your blog.

1. Content is King

You will read this everywhere that useful content is the most important. You want to come up with content new and unique to your readers will come back for more.

2. Find and Participate in Niche Forums

It pays to visit forums in the same niche you have and post on the forums by answering and getting involved in the forum. You don't have to post any "Hey all come visit my blog" but you can add your blog in your signature. Your blog will appear in every post and you will receive traffic to your blog.

3. Visit Other Blogs

Search for other blogs with the same niche and pay them a visit. Also, be sure to comment so they'll visit your blog. They may even link to your blog and even discuss your blog.

4. Add Tags

Don't forget your Tags! This will help search engines find your blog plus help to direct those who are searching for your topic. Make sure you add all the necessary tags about your post.

5. Add Links

There are a couple ways you should add links. Important to add relevant blog links to your blogroll plus add links to other blogs in the text. The blogger on the other end of the link might just reciprocate with a link on the side of his blog.

6. Submit your Site

You should submit your site to all the blog search engines, you will need to ping all the engines every time you update. There are some free services such as Pingoat or Ping-O-matic to ping but they do not cover everyone. Also submit to Google Blog Search and Netscape. I found I get the most traffic from those two.

7. Install an RSS Button

Make it easy for others to subscribe to your blog by installing a RSS button.

8. Join Yahoo Groups

Another way is to join the yahoo groups. You can find your niche groups and there are a lot of groups that will let you post about anything. I have been able to get traffic that way; you just have to find out if the group leader is fine with your posting about your blog.

9. Analyze your Stats

You will need to implement a stat tracking service such as Site Meter to keep track of hits and traffic. Your stat tracker will let you know how people are stopping by daily, where they came from, what pages they viewed, how long they were there, and what page they entered and exited from. The Site Meter offers free service and is easy to install.

It takes time to build up traffic. It may take a few months to a year for your blog to get traffic. Keep posting.
